Brutus tenderly touches Pixie and taps her. He again involves her in the game but this time in a manner befitting her. Pixie is immediately put in a good mood. She is noticed and loved. Her mood is alternating with sadness and cheerfulness. This is to demonstrate that a kindness may be very helpful. Brutus becomes serious in the game as well. He chases the other dog with intention. The other dog is frightened and attempts to get away.

This renders the story humorous because the situation is brought out to be a lot more serious than it was. It reveals that despite its being just a game, Brutus is very serious.
